CeC Stories: Story #4. CeC Malvar’s Least Known Service

I remember I was on vacation leave when an employee of the Batangas office of the ICTO- DOST called me by phone. They were asking whether our CeC can accommodate at least ten of them for their online psychological tests the result of which will be used as an assessment tool for promotion.

I immediately called our knowledge workers Vince and Dominic and asked if our CeC is available on the specified date. It was. Ten ICTO-DOST Batangas employees took their psychological exams at our CeC on November 11, 2015. Previous to that, our records showed that we had two clients in September 2014. Very few and far between! Indeed!

CeC Malvar offers many services. These are: free basic digital literacy training, computer encoding, CD burning, printing, photocopying, web browsing, LGU-IDS, eSkwela and i.assess authorized testing center.

The service that is sparsely being used by our CeC is as a testing center. CeC Malvar is an accredited i-Assess Authorized Testing Center. As such, it actively manages the overall testing procedures at the CeC. i-Assess is a “hosted technology-enabled solution,” and is a program in partnership with Behavioural Dynamics Inc. (BDI) and PhilCeCNet.

Before we became an authorized testing center, we went through the accreditation process. We first registered our CeC with www.i-assess.org and waited a while before we were accredited. Accreditation means that our CeC has a stable internet connection; our PCs are using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as internet browsers; our CeC is a relatively quiet place conducive for testing; we have a secured environment for access and use, ensuring that only the right people will be logging in and doing the testing and we have an officially designated and committed person in charge for test administration.

CeC Malvar can only help on the technical side such as ensuring that internet connection is available and the participants can navigate through the pages. At no time can a CeC knowledge worker help the examinees in answering the exams. Violation of the above items can serve as a threat to the credibility of the test process and results can mean cancellation of the authority as an i-assess testing center.

The applicants must of course have knowledge of basic computer literacy.

The beauty of being a testing center is in the fact that members of our community here in Malvar or the Province of Batangas need not travel to Manila to take the exams. This saves them money, time and effort.

CeC is doing this service for free.
